I am a licensed clinical social worker and therapist who facilitates trauma healing. I use she, her, and hers pronouns.
While I do work with survivors of what most people would objectively call trauma (i.e. sexual assault, domestic violence/intimate partner violence, etc.); I also focus on those experiences that might not be labeled as trauma. The experiences that over time add up to have the same, or similar impact, on our lives as the experiences society thinks of as traumatic. Some of these topics may include, absent parental figures, generally unhealthy interpersonal relationships, growing up with caretakers who were overly negative, had untreated mental health behaviors, or were overbearing or overly strict, etc.
When I provide therapy for someone I work collaboratively with them to help determine which direction we go in or what topics we may delve into further. I'm not here to judge anyone's choices or tell them what to do, rather I help the person figure out what's working well in their life and what are some of the things they are hoping will work better so that they can meet their goals and feel fulfilled.
Social justice, racial equity, inter-sectional feminism and other diversity/equity/inclusion topics are important areas which I incorporate into my therapeutic methods. What this means is that, when appropriate, we may discuss how society has provided you privilege, oppressed, discriminated against, or otherwise shamed any or multiple parts of your identity; and how those experiences may play a role in your story. These topics may also be discussed in terms our our therapeutic relationship and how our identities may be interacting in the room with each other.
I am an LGBTQIAP2 affirming provider.
